Medical Clearance & EFMP
Medical Clearance and Exceptional Family Member Program
If you plan to come to Korea accompanied, family member medical clearance is one of the first steps you’ll need to complete. This process can take a while, so start as soon as you have your Assignment RIP.
The Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) is offered by each service to support families with special medical and educational needs throughout a service member’s career. Family members should enroll in EFMP when a qualifying condition is diagnosed. Each branch has its own EFMP enrollment process. Here at Osan, we provide support to military family members with special needs and assist service members in accomplishing dependents’ medical clearance for permanent changes of station (PCS).
EFMP Family Support Services are available at your losing installation. Your losing installation’s Family Support Services team is your primary point of contact for EFMP information.
They can connect you with:
- Military Support Services and Resources
- Community Support Services and Resources
The Family Support Services team can also answer specific EFMP questions based on your unique situation.
EFMP & the Medical Clearance Process
Having EFMP family members does not automatically disqualify a member from PCSing accompanied to Osan. Below is a general overview of the medical clearance and EFMP process to give you a basic understanding. Each experience will be different, so check with your local EFMP Coordinator if you have questions.
- Member completes vMPF Initial Assignment Brief & MyVector Family Screening Questionnaire.
- Medical professionals and educational specialists evaluate questionnaire answers and family members’ history and determine whether Osan AB services can meet family member’s needs.
- EFMP coordinators assess comprehensive family members’ needs and determine whether Osan AB services can meet the family’s needs.
- EFMP coordinators approve or deny family member travel clearance.
